An Introduction

Alright. I've done it. I've finally bit the bullet and started writing about something I'm truly passionate about. If there's one skill of mine that could truly use some honing, it's writing. So here it goes:

Basketball.

A sport I'm sure many are very familiar with. Back in my home country, the place of it's origin, basketball often comes second fiddle to other sports (the SuperBowl is a big deal), but I've always had a strong interest basketball. From a young age I started playing, and developing my game to a point where I was lucky enough to get cut from my high school squad (twice). Regardless of my unspectacular playing ability I am still a huge fan of the sport, and am an avid viewer of NBA and NCAA Div I games. I currently live in Beijing where basketball is the most popular and fastest growing sport, and since coming to China I've seen the impact of the sport in this foreign land and it's driven me to follow the game closer and understand it better. I've noticed the effect basketball can have in our lives, and the positives it can bring to a community, school, country, or what have you.

Anyway, that's enough about me.

I'm also partly inspired to start this blog due to my all time favorite sports website/podcast center Grantland getting discontinued. Lack of funds? Doesn't matter the reason, sports journalism will live on, and fantastic writing about sports will continue for eons to come.

This blog will cover specifically the topics related to basketball that interest me. I'm a fan of the Celtics and the Bucks in the East but I follow almost every team, just those two closer than others. I will most likely cover topics around the NBA I also am a fan of my alma mater UMass Amherst, and mostly pay attention when they're doing better than how god awful the 2015-16 season has been. Some topics I plan to write on in the upcoming month include:

- The rise of the Eastern Conference in the NBA
- Kobe Bryant's retirement extravaganza
- The science behind March Madness
- The rise of the draft class of 2014 (NBA)
- Giannis Antetokounmpo
- NBA Playoffs

And whatever else I get around to.

I also would like to get feedback on this blog, so if there's anyone reading who wants to comment/criticize/disagree/agree/etc please feel free to engage me! I CRAVE BASKETBALL CONVERSATION. Seriously though, I have a strong desire to talk to people about basketball, and I don't have an outlet for that here in China all the time, so it will be interesting to get involved on this blog.

Let's see where it goes!
